Factors that influence the cost

01

Size of the area

Most plastering is priced per square metre. Larger jobs often work out slightly cheaper per m² as setup costs are spread.

02

Wall condition

Walls with old artex, uneven surfaces, damp damage or multiple layers of old plaster take considerably longer to prepare.

03

Type of finish

Standard skim is the most cost-effective option. Lime, Venetian and polished plasters require specialist materials and more skilled application.

04

Access requirements

High ceilings, stairwells or external work at height may require scaffolding or towers. This will be factored into your estimate.

05

Materials specified

Silicone render and quality EWI systems use premium materials. See our materials page for a full breakdown.

Plastering price FAQs

How do plasterers charge — by day or by square metre?
Most plasterers — ourselves included — price by the job rather than by day rate or square metre. We visit your property, assess what is needed, and give you a fixed price. Always ask for a written quote before any work starts.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. We provide free, no-obligation estimates. We will visit your property, assess the work and give you a written quote. There is no call-out fee and no pressure to proceed.
How long does plastering take to dry?
Fresh plaster typically takes 3-7 days to dry fully before it can be painted, depending on temperature, humidity and thickness. Do not apply paint while the plaster is still drying — it will cause the paint to peel.
Is EWI expensive? Is it worth it?
EWI represents a significant upfront investment — typically £5,000 to £15,000+ for a whole house. However, for solid-wall properties with no other insulation option, the energy savings, improved comfort and increased property value often make it worthwhile. Our customers consistently tell us it was one of the best home improvements they made. See our EWI Brighton page and benefits page for more detail.
Do you work in Eastbourne, Hastings and Worthing?
